Sara Prince - A Book Of Farm Babies

A book of farm babies is book number four in my baby animals series and is full of things for little kids to learn. It introduces the names of the baby animals, the sounds they make, where they’re found on the farm, and also explores the prepositions in, under, over, through etc. There are fun facts in the back, a coloured flower code to follow, silhouettes to investigate AND a colouring-in page – not to mention of course some VERY cute farm babies!

Like all of my books in this baby animal series, they contain a large, easily read font and soft muted colours and sepia tones. This is especially for very young babies, who tend to turn away from bright colours, and also those children with special needs, who often can’t cope with brightly coloured illustrations. While the animal pictures are detailed and realistic, the pages are simple and uncluttered, again for young babies, but also for those with autism etc., who cannot cope with ‘busy’, cluttered pages.

A book of Farm Babies, looks like a simple little book on the outside, but in fact contains many layers! Each page introduces the name of the baby, the sound they make, where they are on the farm (with a wee bit of alliteration included!). It explores the prepositions such as, in, under, over, through, etc. In addition the silhouettes tell their own story, for as each animal comes into play, they eat the hay that Farmer Brown is delivering (although I suspect it was the goat that ate everything!) Readers also need to be aware of the colour of the flowered letters on each page, because that is the code for the colouring-in page and map in the back. In addition there is also a page of fun little facts. This is the perfect book for all young children (aged 0-5) who love animals!
